I figure I can't run an interior design blog too long without giving a tour of where I actually live! As promised, here is a tour of our apartment. I live with four amazing girls. Thankfully, we all have a pretty similar taste in decor and had a blast decorating our apartment at the beginning of this semester! Having five opinions is a lot, but bouncing ideas off of one another and sharing costs is a huge blessing! In this post, I will also be sharing some thoughts on decorating on a budget as well as working with what you already have.

The first thing we did was come up with a vibe for our space. I would call our aesthetic bohemian, tribal, world-traveler. For us it meant lots of texture, bold colors, and maps.

Our apartment came with a couch and matching arm chairs, a tv stand, coffee table, side table, and dining table and chairs (which can be seen in the background of a few pictures, although I won't go into the kitchen area in this post). The faux leather taupe couch and chairs aren't necessarily stunning, but they're nice enough, and get the job done. Our priority was to dress them up with blankets and pillows.

Honestly, I recognize that as a college freshman I am spoiled rotten with the amount of space I have here. Shoot, I have my own room and bathroom! (post on that coming soon) Nonetheless, many of us college kids in America come from nice homes and being under our parent's roofs and we have certain expectations I think. I know I've dealt with pressure to have a nice space because I am an interior design major and I want to "prove myself" to people. But that is fear of man coming into play. And while I still want a nice space, it isn't the most important thing. It is important to me that our apartment is a place of peace and order where we can all function well and do our studies and enjoy time together. It's important to me that we are also able to be hospitable with our apartment and use it to serve others. But beyond that, I need to be careful to watch my motives and not fall trap into comparison or entitlement. It may seem like making a big deal out of nothing if you aren't prone to think this way, and but I do believe some of you out there will definitely be able to connect with me on these struggles. And that's why I think it's wise to be intentional about thinking though some of this stuff and even sharing my thoughts on it!

I do apologize for the poor lighting on this photo. But I wanted you all to see the layout of the room and hopefully you can catch the coloring better on some of the other pictures!

Another thought on decorating whether you are in a dorm, apartment, or house is that it will ALWAYS feel like there's something more you can do. And people like me find "tinkering" to be so much fun. But as mentioned, we are on a budget and stewarding our money well is important to us. We have a lot of space, but still the monetary account of your average group of college girls. I love our apartment...it proves you CAN decorate well on a budget! We did most of our shopping at Gordmans, TJ Maxx, Tuesday Morning, Target, and Amazon.

We even found this blackboard contact paper, which is a great affordable option for any wall! And we love changing it with the seasons or whenever we want to mix things up a bit.

The lights and "gather" banner were steals from Target's dollar section! They are always worth a browse and often have seasonal decor for super cheap!

Get creative! I took the lid from the "not all who wander are lost" box and created this tray for our coffee table.

I hope this tour inspired you! Comment below with your favorite places to find affordable home decor :)
