Family Farmhouse

Today is the day I finally get to show you a bit of a throwback...the first project I did for people who weren't family! Many of you know I am still in college and absolutely still learning the design world, yet I feel so blessed that it has been a launchpad into some incredible experiences. This was one of them.

In high school I redesigned our family living room as part of an interior design internship. It was a simple refresh, but it made for a big difference. One of my sister's friends noticed the change around the same time her mom was buying a new home and after taking a peek, they invited me to be part of the process of designing their new home! I set up a design plan for them, which they implemented over time. During Christmas break, I finally had a chance to see what it looks like now and document some pictures to share with ya'll!

It started as a blank slate. To transform it into home, I needed to remember...

  • Greenery & neutrals with pops of orange, blue, yellow, and green

  • Not too "designed"...wanted it to feel simple but homey

  • Enjoys the farmhouse style

  • Had some incredible antiques to implement

  • Big window as focal point

  • Highlight family pictures

The living room flows into the dining room, which unfortunately may be a little tricky to see from pictures. In this last picture, you can see where the flooring switches from carpet to wood. The fun chalk door is between the dining and kitchen, so this is looking out from the dining room. I'll add a video at the end that will give you a good feel for the space!

The dining room incorporates some family heirlooms, which I love. They had a couple really cool antique pieces to incorporate including the scale (you'll see a close up picture of this!) and an egg weigher, which you'll have to see if you can spot in the pictures!

This last little section is my favorite...I mean look at those faces! We wanted to incorporate family pictures in a way that could grow as the family expands. This little "family tree" does the trick! One thought is that she may find some little wooden apples to attach to the tree with names on them to really make it a family tree.

I wasn't involved much in the nursery for the grand-babies, but I thought they had some cute ideas so I'm going to include a couple pictures of that as well. I really love the scrabble names.

At the end of the day, I am a big believer that if you cannot physically go somewhere, the next best thing is video. I hope this makes you feel like you stepped right in :)

In case you have a dining room like this one, or another space where you may add a rug, I wanted to share an exciting announcement! I recently became an affiliate with Boutique Rugs, so if you're in the market for a rug I'd encourage you to check them out and use my coupon code APT60 for 60% off! I have not personally purchased from them yet, but my friends have been super satisfied with their experience with Boutique Rugs, so I feel great recommending their products. I am amazed by the quality for the price and will be ordering from them as soon as I have my own space & do need a rug.

make yourself at home,

Liv

Before you go, Happy April and Happy Easter!! I am so thankful we serve a RISEN Savior! Because truly, what comfort would it be if Christ died for our sins but did not conquer death in the process? He would be a martyr, but not our all-powerful God.

Anyway, I've always wished we had as many Easter songs as we do Christmas songs! People say we sing easter songs at church year round, which maybe is true, but you know what I mean :) Lately I've been listening to Christ is Risen in preparation for Easter. If you have any favorite Easter music, please drop me a comment because I'd love to give it a listen!
